R. PAUL FARRELL INSTALLED INTO NYWEA HALL OF FAME

NEW YORK - 10 February '03 - Niskayuna resident R. Paul Farrell has been selected for induction into the New York Water Environment Association's inaugural Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was created to recognize those outstanding individuals who have made great contributions in the area of preserving and protecting our water resources, and in conjunction with commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the NYWEA. Mr. Farrell and the other charter inductees will be honored during a Gala Celebration this evening in New York City at the NYC Marriott Marquis.

R. Paul Farrell has devoted three decades to pressure sewers and grinder pumps. An engineering graduate of Virginia Tech and the son of a state sanitary engineer, his early GE experience with food waste disposers and home wastewater treatment prepared him for the development of a new residential sewage pump envisioned by Gordon Fair for ASCE.

Starting "from scratch" at GE in 1967, he developed a prototype grinder pump. Paul then designed the world's first commercial grinder pump at Environment One while directing a year-long, full-scale field demonstration sponsored by NYDEC and EPA. This comprehensive demonstration and report contributed materially to present design and application standards for pressure sewers.

Paul has traveled widely, introducing grinder pumps and pressure sewers to the profession across the US and abroad. He is a life member of WEF, a contributor to two Manuals of Practice, a past chairman and director of the Capital Chapter NYWEA, and a booster of the Adopt-A-School program. Paul holds a dozen US patents related to food waste disposers, treatment processes and pressure sewers; and he is a registered Professional Engineer.
